Throwing for Improvers with Joss Hibbs (Wednesdays)
Join MAKE Southwest member Joss Hibbs of Powdermills Pottery for a 5‑week ceramic throwing course for improvers!
This course is designed to refine and strengthen your throwing skills by working with larger amounts of clay and creating larger-scale pieces. Participants will receive bespoke targets tailored to their individual skill level, helping them develop technique, confidence, and control.
This course is not suitable for absolute beginners. Participants should have previous wheel-throwing experience or have successfully completed a beginners' throwing course before booking.
All materials and equipment will be provided.
Participants must be aged 18 years +
Course Outline:
Week 1 (9 Sep) – Introduction, centering and throwing cylinders
Week 2 (16 Sep) - Introduction to bellies, lips, galleries and handles
Week 3 (23 Sep) Throwing bowls, lids and an introduction to turning
Week 4 (30 Sep) – Designing and making parts for your final pot
Week 5 (7 Oct) – Assembling and completing your final pot
You will choose x1 of your pieces to be fired, glazed and taken home.
All glazing and firing is included in the course price.
Collection: Your work will be ready for collection within two - four weeks after the last class and we will hold your work for a further month. Unfortunately, due to limited storage space, we cannot keep your work beyond this time.
