Make a Small Fruit Basket with Vivienne Turner
Learn the art of willow weaving and make a basket in a day.
Learn how to weave a framed egg/berry basket using a variety of English willows. You will gain willow basketmaking skills and produce a rustic useable basket to take home. You will also learn the history of this traditional material, details about growth, harvesting and preparation, and be able to weave independently at home.
Experience the age old craft of basket making using a variety of willows to create a beautiful and useful framed basket. Indulge in a day of practical experience to either discover this absorbing craft for the first time or hone your skills.
Vivienne Turner will lead demonstrations on the techniques to produce a frame with pair weaving. Students will also be shown the correct use of all tools which are supplied by Vivienne.
On the Day
Please bring a notebook, pencil and apron to protect your clothing, as well as your own bypass secateurs if you have them. Eating and drinking around your work area is not advisable, however please bring a bottle of water or similar to stay hydrated.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Lunch is not included in the ticket fee so please bring a packed lunch.
On arrival please make your way to the side gate of the Riverside Mill, through the courtyard and up the stone stairs on the side of the building. Please let us know if you require the lift.
Please be aware that you cannot use the Co-op car park for all day parking. The Methodist Church car park and Station Road car park usually have plenty of spaces
