Beyond Horizons Sculpture Exhibition

An ambitious new sculpture exhibition is set to transform one of Somerset's most beautiful private gardens into an inspiring celebration of art, landscape and generosity.

This September, the award-winning 5½-acre Stoberry Park Garden overlooking Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and the Vale of Avalon becomes the setting for Beyond Horizons, an exciting new sculpture exhibition.

Around 92 works by established and emerging artists have been carefully placed throughout the garden, creating a journey in which contemporary and more traditional sculpture interact with planting, water, architecture and the remarkable Somerset landscape. Set amongst sweeping lawns, garden lake, woodland walks, each sculpture has been thoughtfully positioned to create a dialogue with its surroundings.

Visitors will encounter an exciting and diverse collection of work, from monumental outdoor sculpture to more intimate pieces. Some push boundaries, are bold and dramatic; others quietly reveal themselves as visitors navigate winding paths and hidden corners. From delicate stitched leaves to large-scale site responsive collaborations, some artworks are designed to grow, or be dismantled, moving away from traditional concepts to explore how sculpture relates to environment.

Built around the theme of Connectivity, the exhibition will feature as part of Somerset Art Weeks Festival. It provides an important platform for artistic talent, championing sculptors from Somerset alongside nationally and internationally recognised artists, creating an inspiring showcase of contemporary sculpture in the South West. Visitors can discover the stories behind the works. QR codes throughout the exhibition give access to short films of participating artists talking about their inspiration, ideas and creative process - offering a fascinating insight into the sculpture.

Beyond Horizons also supports local charities through ticket sales. Works are for sale, and the exhibition is intended to become an annual celebration of sculpture. It reflects a growing appreciation that gardens are living galleries where art, nature and people exist in harmony. As organisers Frances and Tim Meeres-Young explain:

"We wanted to create something that brings together everything we care about - art, gardens, and community. We hope Beyond Horizons becomes something the county will look forward to every year."
