Isabel Young Solo Exhibition in Virtual Reality
Circular ArtSpace is delighted to present In Search of Ghosts, a solo exhibition by artist and researcher Isabel Young. Accessible entirely in a virtual format, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore Young’s work 24/7 using your own avatar. No VR headset is required – the exhibition can be enjoyed on any device, including computers, tablets, and smartphones, regardless of the operating system.
Isabel Young, Senior Tutor (Research) at the Royal College of Art, delves into the cultural dynamics of houses and the lives of those who inhabited them. Drawing on archaeological theory and experimental archaeology, she works within an expanded field practice to explore ancient dwellings and practices.
In Search of Ghosts showcases her expanded paintings, drawings, and burial works, examining the accumulation of cultural time through the lens of the contemporary Metaverse. Inspired by fieldwork at the ancient dwellings of Pompeii, the vernacular architecture of South-East England, and the Neolithic sites of Orkney, Young reimagines historic spaces as “Monuments.” The exhibition highlights the house as a repository of material culture, a space where human and non-human relationships intertwine, and a link between past and present rituals.
By revisiting immense tracts of time, In Search of Ghosts investigates how people have lived differently throughout history, providing fresh insights into the ways we exist in the modern world.
