Bricks Podcast - Ep.6 – Annabel Other – Friendship, Yearning and Horses (Can you do the Pony like Boney Maroney)
Annabel Other presents the sixth episode of the Bricks Podcast: Friendship, Yearning and Horses (Can you do the Pony like Boney Maroney).
Annabel’s warm and funny podcast reflects gently on the feeling of things being not quite right, living an endless cycle of Sundays, how it feels to miss the closeness and comfort of friendship during periods of isolation. Through conversations about horses with her friends, Annabel recreates the proximity of friendship that so often eludes us at the moment.
Although not “a horsey person” herself, Annabel finds that horses often have a strong presence as they trot into our lives, and become mythologised in our experiences. A symbol of freedom and romance for some, deep-seated fear for others (like Annabel’s mum), enduring loyalty, love and whinnying for many more.
All of the conversations in this podcast were recorded over summer and autumn 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some chats were recorded digitally, others in person, at a social distance during snatched moments of relative normality. What comes across in all the conversations is the touching intimacy of friendship; the shared jokes; hilarity of a turn of phrase; misremembered anecdotes; the easy delight of just being with our friends.
You can also catch up on our other podcasts by Bricks Associate Artists, Bo Lanyon, Olivia Jones, Megan Clark-Bagnall, Ben Hartley and Cliff Andrade.
