Artist-In-Residence, Anna Marris
Anna Marris is taking over the artist studio until December, as the recipient for the Platform Alumni Residency Award 2024.
During this residency, Artist Anna Marris will investigate how our ocean’s vast but hugely significant circulations can be reimagined through creative intervention to bring attention to its life-sustaining importance in regulating global climate. Where land meets sea, the behaviours of the ocean are felt strongly. By tapping into Portsmouth’s coastline, Marris will investigate the local geography, its geology, its people and knowledge to reframe the landscape alongside ocean research. Adverse weather and rising sea levels pose an ongoing threat to the area and there is an increasing urgency to address our relationships with the climate crisis. As an artist whose work is heavily influenced by scientific data and imagery, her practice explores complex fields of research in order to make science more accessible. Through printmaking that extends into tactile sculptural and audio-visual works, Marris tests the different ways science can be reconstructed and activated through new perspectives about our place on the planet.
