The Impressionists Use of Colour

Explore the use of colours in the style of the Impressionists and learn to create an overall atmosphere using the interplay of colours between objects. Cezanne claimed that, 'painting is recording colour sensation'. Following this concept, learn to apply hues at their purest and without softening or delimitating shapes. Analyse light, its effect on composition and apply this to create a still life using acrylic and pastels on paper.

All basic materials provided for this workshop, although we recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them. Please bring an apron or wear clothes suitable for an art studio. You may also wish to consider bring a plastic bag in which to take wet work home with you.
