Talk: Civic Engagement

A talk from the BALTIC Centre’s Sarah Munro as part of the WEVAA launch weekend. Presented at the School of Art, Film & Media at Bath Spa University.

Bath Spa University, in partnership with the West of England Visual Arts Alliance, are pleased to invite you to a presentation by Sarah Munro, Director of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary art, whose talk will focus on the Baltic’s civic engagement strategy and resulting impact on Gateshead and the North East.

Sarah Munro is the Director of the UK’s largest contemporary art institution –
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. Since 2016, she has led a powerful vision, enhancing the organisation’s artistic, social and civic mission, and ensuring that relevance and impact is embedded across the organisation. She has developed a new approach to the programme that responds to the expanded practice of artists across events, performance, residencies, associate artists and research.

With the locality of new Locksbrook Campus, Bath Spa University seek to play a more proactive civic role in the city. With the support of WEVAA, we invite you to join us in thinking about how the Art School can better connect and engage with the visual arts community of Bath and the South West.

The talk will be followed by a panel conversation about the West of England Visual Arts Alliance (WEVAA), chaired by Paula Orrell, Network Lead for Visual Arts South West.

The event also features artworks, created by local young artists, following a series of creative workshops led by artist Morgan Tipping.
