About the Exhibition:

Smithson Projects is delighted to present When Other Worlds Whisper, a solo show by the contemporary British artist Rosie Emerson. Emerson is a Sussex based experimental printmaker, who draws from the history of theatre, ecology, and aristocracy to create opulent and otherworldly scenes on paper. Embracing a spectrum of techniques, including photopolymer etching, monoprint, and cyanotype, Emerson combines and transforms traditional printmaking processes, incorporating natural materials and hand finished elements to achieve her unique signature aesthetic.

When Other Worlds Whisper offers the viewer glimpses into unseen worlds at many scales. Inspired by the opulent grottos of extravagant aristocrats, the flamboyant embodiment of microscopic life, the mysterious communication patterns of coral, and the secret drawers of ornate Victorian cabinets, Emerson uses her theatrical sensibility to create windows into hidden worlds. During the exhibition Emerson will be in residence at 17 Midland Road, and her upstairs studio will be open to give visitors a behind the scenes glimpse into her multidimensional process.

Emerson was recently featured in Artists & Illustrators magazine and Harper's Bazaar and has previously been featured in Vogue, AnOther Magazine, and The Sunday Times Style. Recent commissions include The Dorchester, London, and Raffles, Boston. In September 2023 she was shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize. Her work was last exhibited in Bristol as part of the RWA Photo Open in 2023, and Annual Open Exhibition in 2021.

All exhibited works will be available to acquire through Smithson Projects.
