Shallal presents Underworld art exhibition as an interactive ebook

Inclusive arts organisation Shallal publishes creative, interactive ebooks to share exhibition and project artwork

Cornish arts charity Shallal has published its first creative ebooks, available to view free online by following this link www.smashwords.com/profile/view/Shallal. The two innovative digital books are bursting with colour and full of surprises. Visual art from exhibitions at Falmouth Art Gallery and Kresen Kernow is mixed with videos, animations and audio elements including sound art and artists narrating their poems. Audiences can interact with the ebook to bring up additional sounds and visual effects and to link to further artwork online.
Shallal Studios co-manager Phoebe Barnicoat says; ‘We’ve been really lucky to collaborate with Stuart Blackmore of Cling Clack who has designed the ebooks and shared our vision of exploring the potential of ebooks to make art more accessible’.
The ebooks are part of Shallal Studios’ artist-lead Underworld project, researching and celebrating Cornwall’s unique natural habitats with a focus on bats and seaweed. ‘Now our artists can share their artwork with people across Cornwall and all over the world. We definitely have plans for more ebooks in the future.
Shallal Studios is grateful to project funders Arts Council England, FEAST Cornwall, Awards for All and The RTR Foundation. To find out more about Shallal visit www.shallal.org .
