An exhibition of 74 short films by Swiss artist Roman Signer
Swiss artist Roman Signer has been redefining sculpture for more than 40 years. He produces elementary dynamic sculptures and installations, also known as 'time sculptures' for their preoccupation with the transformation of materials and objects through time. He uses photography and moving image to document his work.
Signer exploits the possible uses and limitations of everyday objects, such as umbrellas, bottles, tables, chairs and candles, through a process guided by both curiosity and discipline.
Born in Appenzell, Switzerland in 1938, Roman Signer started his career as an artist in the late sixties, having previously worked as architect’s draughtsman and as a radio engineer apprentice. This special exhibition of 74 short films offers an exceptional opportunity to see a substantial body of work by an artist who occupies a unique position in the recent history of sculpture.
