Poster Studies - Spring Flowers - Still Life
Poster Studies — Spring Flowers — Still Life Ten painting classes on Thursday afternoons with tutor Matthew Davison.
Our domestic interiors and ordinary household artefacts, whether taken for granted or loved for being comfortingly familiar, reveal the complexity and character of our lives. We can explore and reflect on how we interact with them through observing shape, colour, lighting and placement of Still Life compositions.
This term we will introduce spring flowers into the compositions.
Finding inspiration for still life painting comes in many ways, the interiors we construct and inhabit speak about our own likes and dislikes in an informative way.
We will be working on 8 x 10 inch boards, painting in oil. These smaller scale paintings are quick to complete and really concentrate the painting practise.
We will be using the classical techniques poster study and tonal underpainting. Working from drawn tonal studies and under painted Grisaille we will extend them to oil studies, moving on to larger paintings.
If you already have some painting experience and are seeking to further develop your skills, these classes are tailored just for you. This course is not intended for beginners, but rather for those who wish to build upon their previous painting knowledge and refine their techniques, this course will help you achieve your goals.
Explore the artists who have painted and drawn the domestic from Morandi and Nicholson to John Randall Bratby and Rosamund Ross and the ways in which they painted domestic life using the varied light falling on their kitchenalia and domestic interiors.
