Arnolfini presents A land as big as her skin, a major exhibition by Mounira Al Solh featuring the UK debut of A Dance with her Myth (2024) — the artist’s pavilion installation for the Venice Biennale.
At a time when questions of borders and belonging remain central to public debate, Al Solh reimagines the Phoenician myth of Europa — a princess carried across the sea — through contemporary histories of displacement and resilience.
Born in Beirut and living between Lebanon and the Netherlands, the artist works across installation, painting, textiles and film, weaving personal memory with political history.
Alongside the central installation, new works explore the intertwined stories of Europa and Queen Elissa, founder of Carthage, presenting folklore as a regenerative force for healing, transformation and re-imagining the present.
