This study session provides an opportunity to think about different approaches to landscape.

Artist Abigail Reynolds has spent many years studying published landscape photographs, which provide the raw material for much of her collage-based work. The study session will encourage close looking and what it reveals, also considering Godwin’s photographs in relation to texts by Ted Hughes and John Fowles, written to accompany them. Participants will have the opportunity to write and share a short text describing one of the works. The session will also consider the use of the term landscape as opposed to ecology, how narratives are inscribed on the land, embodied attitudes to landscape, and the politics of these attitudes.

Fay Godwin’s work is on show at Kestle Barton until 28 October and Charlotte Prodger’s BRIDGIT will be shown at CAST from 24 October to 9 December. We hope that participants will visit both exhibitions before participating in Looking at Landscape.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale from £5 to £15
