Discover the art of traditional wood engraving in this hands-on three-hour workshop led by artist Ed Crumpton, who developed his engraving practice under the guidance of acclaimed wood engraver Hilary Paynter.

Using specialist hand tools and wood blocks, you’ll be introduced to the full engraving process — from developing an initial sketch to carving and producing your own printed image. Along the way, you’ll explore line, tone, texture, and mark-making techniques central to relief printing.

Participants are encouraged to bring sketches, reference images, or ideas they’d like to develop during the session.

This is a practical relief printing workshop using sharp carving tools, so participants must be aged 18+.

All materials and tools are provided, and you’ll leave with your own engraved print to take home.
