Holding the Baby, A Conversation

Join us for a conversation about parenthood, photography, and sharing stories.

Join us for a conversation about parenthood, photography, and sharing stories, with photographer Polly Braden, writer Sally Williams, and Holding the Baby participants Gemma White and Carike West. Find out what it was like to create this participatory project – an intimate portrait exploring the strength and resilience of single parent families and the challenges they face – from those behind and in front of the lens as they discuss how the photographs and accompanying texts were made together.

This will be an informal discussion event, with families and children welcome, and free and open to all. You can also visit Holding the Baby, a free exhibition of new photographic work by artist Polly Braden at Arnolfini until Sunday 12 June 2022.

Polly Braden is a documentary photographer whose work features an ongoing conversation between the people she photographs and the environment in which they find themselves

Sally Williams is a writer known for her long-form features and reportage. Her work has taken her across the world and into the heart of people’s lives.

Polly Braden worked with seven single parents on the project – Gemma White and Carike West are two of the participants in the project from Bristol.

This event is in collaboration with Museum of the Home in London. Museum of the Home explore and debate what home means through creating exhibitions, events, collaborations, research and debates.
