Haunting of the House: Painting the Ghosts of Memory

Haunting of the House: Painting the Ghosts of Memories is an immersive solo exhibition presenting the paintings of Liam Hart.

Haunting of the House: Painting the Ghosts of Memory is an immersive solo exhibition presenting the paintings of Liam Hart. Utilising the home as a metaphor for the internal architecture of the mind, the collection explores the complexities of mental health through the lens of the fictional Blighton family. Each artwork maps a psychological space where domestic rooms become chambers of memory, fear, and ultimate renewal.

Through realistic yet surreal imagery—a crib seen through a child's eyes, a staircase, corridors, and a face covered with watchful eyes—Hart traces the haunting journey of navigating childhood shadows and memories of the past which have not been dealt with, in order to emerge stronger.

The exhibition frames these stairs and corridors as vital transitional moments, capturing the experience of walking from one space of your mind into another. The collection serves as a poignant call to confront the invisible hauntings of mental health, transforming our understanding of the spaces where we first learned to be human.

Visitors will experience an intentional, narrative-driven installation that guides them room by room through the Blighton family home. Stepping into the gallery is akin to life’s beginning, welcoming viewers with the innocence of a crib before unfolding into complex family interactions and childhood experiences.

As guests move deeper into the space, they will traverse these transitional corridors and encounter "hidden drawers" spilling the ghosts of unresolved past memories—off-putting, persistent moments often plastered over with behavioural masks and patterned wallpaper. Visitors are invited to walk this domestic space as a child re-entering with mature eyes: to notice what has been concealed, confront the taboos we ignore at our own peril, and discover how fears once navigated can become doorways to rebuilding the self.
