Flagged Up
A new work by Helen K Grant commissioned for Test Space Field Trip
Flagged Up, a supersized bunting artwork by Helen K Grant is at once celebratory and alarming. Made from fluorescent orange and yellow ripstop fabric it could either be welcoming guests to a ridiculously fun party or serving as a warning of impending doom. Strung across the barn at Fircrest in Somerset it heralds a new rural iteration of Test Space, the artist-led project and exhibition programme formerly based at Spike Island in Bristol. After nearly ten years Test Space is morphing into a roving entity with side-shoots such as Test Space International and the forthcoming Test Space Field Trip accompanying its exhibition programme.
Helen K Grant is an artist based in Bristol whose willfully erratic practice takes a playful look at the vagaries of human communication. Flagged Up has been especially produced for the debut of Test Space at Fircrest and to coincide with Sew Buntiful Wells 2021.
