Exhibition: Lies and Truth by Jackie Eksi

Pop-up exhibition by Jackie Eksi in the Crawford Room at God’s House Tower, for one weekend only. Free admission.

Lies and Truth is an installation inspired by the film Labyrinth, made from a number of sculptural elements which can be put together in multiple configurations. This new body of work was made possible thanks to the Outside In, The Arts Society South Downs and Dr Andrew Edney Artist Bursary scheme.

“I’ve made elements of a labyrinth, inspired by the 1986 film of the same name. I wanted to create something quite large scale with play in perspective, size and dimensions as the films themes also play with those elements.

The project has been therapeutic and cathartic in many ways: I’ve learned more about why the film and the project have been such an obsession. My mind-scape is a confusing space with multiple directions and distractions. The labyrinth reflects me, and I learn more about myself each time I engage it.

I can relate with the disorientation of a staircase feeling like it’s about to disappear underneath my feet. The forgetting, the distractions, to hide within a fantasy. The lack of feeling in control. Until the end when she remembered “you have no power over me.” The realisation that I give my power away in order to fit in. There’s a hidden meaning in the words, the story and indeed the stage set it takes place in.”
