Talks & Seminars
EARTH | GROUND: In Conversation and Q&A
Amanda Wallwork will be in conversation with Alexa de Ferranti to discuss the curation of a very personal exhibition and her late father’s work.
As part of Bridport Art Centre’s current exhibition EARTH | GROUND, artist Amanda Wallwork will be in conversation with Alexa de Ferranti to discuss the experience of curating this joint exhibition, the influence of her father Alan Wallwork’s work on her own creative practice, and both artists’ relationship to the local area.
EARTH | GROUND brings together two artists, father and daughter, whose work has been deeply influenced by the Dorset landscape, prehistory and deep time.
Alan Wallwork’s range of distinctive sculptural forms resembling archaic, sometimes totemic shapes were made in his studios in London, Marnhull and Uplyme. Amanda Wallwork is a visual artist using drawing, painting, mapping and installations to explore our experience of landscape - a quest for a real understanding of what lies beyond the aesthetic. Both artists have been heavily influenced by local landscapes, evidence of prehistory, and the shapes, colours and textures to be found in the coast and countryside of Dorset.
Alexa de Ferranti, artist, curator, smallholder and former Fine Art lecturer at Solent University and the University of Hertfordshire will join Amanda to discuss the creative relationship between father and daughter, the influence of the local area on both artists, and the process of putting together a deeply personal exhibition.
Join us in the Allsop Gallery at Bridport Art Centre at 4.30pm, Saturday 10th June. Refreshments will be available at the bar from 4pm, please arrive in plenty of time for a prompt start of 4.30.
THIS EVENT IS FREE, BUT BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL:
