Dartmoor Tors Festival
The first Dartmoor Tors Festival brings together thinkers and creatives who are interested in culture and place.
The Dartmoor Tors Festival will explore and celebrate the culture of Dartmoor and our emotional connection with wild, ancient places. We aim to present diverse cultural, social and political responses to the natural world – all through the lens of Dartmoor as a place. There will be talks, cross-disciplinary conversations, walks, workshops and performances.
The Festival will kick off on Friday night, 23rd May, with the wonderful Martha Tilston performing at Ashburton Arts Centre On the Saturday there will be talks and conversations at Ashburton Arts Centre and workshops at Field System followed, in the evening, with a performance by Dartmoor folk legend Seth Lakeman. On the Sunday there will be a varied programme of walks to choose from. The Festival weekend will culminate late Sunday afternoon with a conversation and performance by Dartmoor Morris legends Beltane Border. Over the following week there will be a chance to join walks and see more associated events, culminating in Ashburton Artists and Artisans @ashburton.artisans open studios weekender from 31st of May to 1st of June.
The festival is curated by Sophie Pierce and Alex Murdin from RURALRECREATION.ORG.UK. It is being put on as a partnership with Ashburton Arts Centre, Field System Gallery and N-E-W, and has the support of Dartmoor National Park, sponsored by Dewerstone and Sherewood Gallery.
