About us
The collective got together in 2014 and to date have created 3 hugely successful art events in Ashburton. Our art festival in 2014 attracted over 200 people who joined us for a musician led art safari, workshops and an extended and exciting series of curated contemporary new art in unusual and varied venues across the town. In 2015, we hosted ‘Sound Saturday’ with a fantastic and comprehensive programme of contemporary sound artists, installations and music. In 2018, we created N-E-W IDEAS, a curated site responsive event with a mix of installations, audience involvement and an introduction to on-going community-based projects in the new Ashburton Arts, originally an old Methodist Hall in the town. In 2022 we held N-E-W PARTY to reassess what we wanted to achieve with our creative community post-covid.
The latest project from N-E-W in 2023 is an audience-powered event that re-imagines educational and social systems, ASSEMBLY. The project is curated by artist Rob Manners and inspired by poet and activist Wendell Berry and includes performances, installation, musical improvisation and conversational art works.Every day of the exhibition a bell will ring to call people to performances and dialogue on the future of our communities, our choices about education and the contribution of art and culture to a challenging future.
