Commemorative Platters – Queeros and Ourstory

Join artistRachael House for a creative and reflective workshop celebrating the often-overlooked people and moments in LGBTQIA+ history.

In this hands-on workshop, rather than honouring the usual monarchy or other hierarchies, you’ll create commemorative platters that centre Queeros – campaigners, friends, family, and those whose stories may be neglected.

The artist will introduce and share examples of historic commemorative ceramics and queer history through a range of materials in addition to the works currently on display at Aspex in her exhibition ‘Come as you are’, before inviting you to make your own interpretations.

Working on large, ready-made palm leaf platters (eco-friendly and biodegradable), you’ll be guided through a process of reflection, design and decoration using inks, sharpies, and gold paint. At the end of the workshop, you’ll will share the inspiration behind your work alongside other participants in a supportive and open discussion.

No experience needed, and all materials provided. This workshop is aimed at LGBTQIA+ people, friends, allies and families aged 18+, and may explore adult themes.
