Body, Soul and Spirit
In his first solo exhibition Richard Uff explores the themes of body, mind and spirit.
“Whereas the Body has been illustrated from the beginnings of time, I can see that the door is wide open to take it into the depths of character, feelings and relationships.
The Soul is a wide and random canvas. What do you like? Where does your mind go?
Spirit is generally a private and personal place, which we don’t all recognise. As a Christian I see this as an area of communication, where I can begin to share my heart.”
Like David Hockney, Richard enjoys the portability, not to mention the cleanliness, of the iPad for artmaking. His images are then printed onto paper or canvas, and either kept intact or treated as sketchbook studies and overpainted, sometimes to the point of obliterating the original motif.
“I am trying to qualify, to some extent, the place of technology within the studio and its place in art.”
The exhibition will include prints on paper and canvas, as well as original oil paintings.
Richard studied at the Plymouth College of Art and Design from 2006 - 2009.
