Pod 5 Immersive Art Residency
East quay are looking for an energetic, hands-on artist to create a new immersive installation in Pod 5, for the duration of 2024.
- Residency dates: Friday 26 January - Friday 9 February 2024
- Stipend: £1,000
- Production budget: Up to £500 to cover any materials, workshop
requirements, and any furnishings
- Accommodation provided at East Quay
- Travel costs by arrangement
This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging artist to come and live and work at East Quay in Watchet, Somerset, for up to two weeks in early 2024. We are looking for a hands-on individual with exemplary creative vision to realise an artwork in Pod 5 that can inspire our visitors and guests throughout 2024.
Practitioners from any creative background are welcome to apply and we are open to proposals from artists working in all mediums. We are seeking artwork which creates an immersive atmosphere within the space, engaging both physically and conceptually with the surroundings. We welcome wall-based proposals, but are also open to 3D concepts and ideas.
The Pod is designed with artwork in mind and includes a mezzanine level, which offers the potential to display sculpture, AV (equipped with data access), sound, and installation. Please bear in mind that you cannot change the configuration of furniture/fixings within the pod which include the sleeping area, kitchen, bathroom, and living space which must remain as seen.
We want our organisation to be representative of all sections of society and welcome applications from everyone. Equality and diversity considerations are not an ‘add on’ to the work that we do, rather enabling access and engagement to the broadest range of people from and beyond our community is the very reason for our existence. Unfortunately, Pod 5 is situated on the second floor of our building and is not accessible to those with mobility issues/require the use of a wheelchair. We are conscious of the constraints this creates, but welcome discussions on how we can make working with those who have mobility issues possible on this project.
To apply, please submit a pdf document containing the following information:
• Initial proposal/expression of interest outlining how you would like to activate Pod 5, including images and sketches of your proposed ideas (see attached floor plans and images).
• Artist CV, containing two referees and letter of application (maximum 2 sides), detailing your suitability for the position and relevant experience.
Please send your application to millie@containsart.co.uk by 5pm, Friday 3 November 2023.
