Artist-led: FORM-ICA
An ongoing series profiling artist-led initiatives and groups in the South West. This month we are celebrating FORM-ICA
Can you tell us about FORM-ICA, who you are and what you do?
FORM-ICA is an Independent Collective of Artists situated in a former factory in Bath. It houses seven studio spaces and a flexible shared communal space which is used to host events, including courses, meetings, artist talks and discussions.
Can you tell us why you set up and how FORM-ICA is important in the context that you are working in?
As a group of artists, we are aware of the limited access to affordable studio spaces in Bath, particularly purpose-built studios that are suitable for a variety of artistic practices. The studios at FORM-ICA vary in size and so the studio holders are a diverse group of artists at different stages of their careers. The programme of events at FORM-ICA has developed organically and is initiated by our resident artists, reflecting their interests and bringing together their networks.
Can you tell us about what you are currently working on and if you have any projects coming up you’d like to share with our network?
We recently hosted an Open Studio Yard Party in collaboration with our neighbours and connecting with the wider local art scene. We hope to do these more frequently and are continuing with our programme, hoping to include exhibitions and socials in the mix. On Friday 21st February,18:00 -20:00, the Eco-poet duo kin’d & kin’d (Kay Syrad & Clare Whistler) will give an interactive talk about the conception and making of their Cloak for Courage. We advertise events through our website and Instagram so do follow us to keep in touch!
