Unseen-seen
An immersive exhibition about women’s unseen labour, using film projections, textiles, and scent to reflect resilience, care, and imagined futures.
Unseen-seen is a resonant exhibition by Lindsay Woodman, exploring the invisible labour and creativity of women, inspired by reflections on the 1980s feminist movement and its continuing legacy. The project began with the discovery of discarded handmade lace, symbolising overlooked histories and silenced voices.
Drawing on influences from performance, photography, and painting, the exhibition reimagines women’s roles through motifs of windows, framing, and domestic space. It features three projected films—Breathe, Veiled Through the Nets, and Crocheting the Words—examining labour, isolation, and transformation within patriarchal structures.
An immersive installation of textiles, dried plants, and scent celebrates acts of care, creativity, and resilience, inviting you to feel what has been lost and reconsider what remains unseen in women’s lives.
While an audio narrative threads together all that was unseen in women’s lives that is now possible to see, by imagining a future shaped by equality and recognition.
