The Fragility of Life - 27th July to 7th August

Claire Clark and Jordy R. Poma are friends and collaborators who have made connections between the two universities where they studied, Bath Spa University & Lourdes University in Ohio, USA.

Their individual practices are coming together in a joint exhibition at Roseberry Road Studios, The Fragility of Life, an immersive installation that blends the natural world and the human experience of loss, creating a visually unique environment of its own.

Claire’s work is centred around pregnancy loss, grief and the complexity of pregnancy. This is represented in sculptural form as the fallen leaf, changing of the seasons and the deep water of the ocean. The foetus in her work highlights the complex nature of fertility and all its possibilities as life begins and ends. The fallen leaf mirrors our own fleeting existence on the earth and the ocean symbolic of deep-rooted emotion

Jordy’s work invites the viewer to rethink their relationship with the natural world, connect and think outside the box in relation to climate change, looking to his indigenous Peruvian heritage for guidance in traditional values, teachings, food sources and healing methods. Bringing the fragile state of the natural world into play and addressing the impact climate change has on the natural world. His work is a call to action that we, as humans, need to re- learn how to live as part of the land.

This inspiring immersive installation provides thought-provoking and important conversation around fertility, ecology and climate change.
