Space to Dream
Youth-led creative agency and community, Rising Arts Agency, are disrupting the visual arts sector with their latest exhibition ‘Space to Dream’
To mark the end of their two-year ‘Space to Dream’ project, youth-led CIC, Rising Arts Agency is hosting an exhibition of artwork made by their community of young creatives. For 10 days, the ‘Space to Dream’ exhibition will take over Jamaica Street Studio’s KIT FORM to celebrate the boundless nature of grassroots creativity, and provide a space for artists and audiences alike to dream BIG.
Rising Arts Agency’s ‘Space to Dream’ project was a 2 year project funded by Freelands Foundation. The project sought to support young creatives to meaningfully take up space in the creative sector with commissioning and leadership opportunities and time and space to come together.
The ‘Space to Dream’ exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday 6th February until Saturday 15th February, platforming the new work of two young artists, Abbi Bayliss and Sinag Yuson, and the six creatives who received Rising Arts Agency’s inaugural round of funding through the Rising Fund last year. This will also be the first time that the Rising team will work together to put on a collaborative piece to exhibit at the exhibition alongside their community.
Since being founded in 2016, by artist, coach and facilitator Kamina Walton and the young people she was working with at the time, Rising Arts Agency has gained a reputation for their provocative exhibitions and use of public space. In 2019, their ‘Why Are We Not Here?’ exhibition, curated by Stacey Olika and Anika Deb at Spike Island, directly challenged institutional racism in gallery spaces and gained national attention from outlets like BBC and Bristol 24/7. Similarly, in 2020, their award-winning ‘Whose Future’ billboard and poster campaign filled Bristol’s streets with powerful artwork and statements from young people across the city.
Building on the success of BE[LOVED]; Rising’s last exhibition at Arnolfini gallery in February 2023, ‘Space to Dream’ serves as a radical celebration of the 2-year impact of the Space to Dream project, showing what happens when we empower young artists with funding to creatively dream big. Across the duration of the exhibition, audiences will be able to engage with an interactive exhibition guide and creative workshops that will run alongside the exhibition.
Curator Amber Bardell says:
“I want to encourage a playful, open minded approach to making and viewing art in this exhibition. We invite viewers to engage with the work using prompts throughout the space, and a zine collaboration that reflects on art spaces”.
‘SPACE TO DREAM’ will be open from 6th - 15th February 2025, 10 - 6pm at KITFORM, Jamaica Street Studios, BS2 8JP.
There will be a preview launch event on Thursday 6th February, 7pm onwards. You can RSVP for the launch event here.
This free exhibition is delivered in partnership with KIT FORM and supported by Freelands Foundation.
