'SHADE' - Anna Rees
An installation exporing the artist’s experience of depression and anxiety, alongside the onslaught of violence, rights’ stripping & political chaos.
HEY
YOU
CHILL THE F*** OUT!
Staying mentally healthy has become work to do as an individual, but how do we buy our wellness and pay the rent? Will a new hair cut find the root cause of transphobia? Could bigger tits stop the war? Shade is an installation that came out of the artist’s experience of learning to navigate depression and anxiety, alongside the onslaught of world news of ever-increasing violence, rights’ stripping, political chaos and climate collapse.
SOUNDS INTENSE, COUNT ME OUT – I WANT TO PARTY!!!
This work uses self-reflexive humour to take out some of the sting.Sound clips are severed from their source and layered in an act of queer collage. Visitors are invited to enter the installation and journey from anxieties through to affirmations, with a healthy dose of sarcasm and pop culture along the way. Anna Rees is a Bristol artist who is crawling out of her own tunnel to put something out there in the real world after many years in hiding.
Sound installation, sculpture, video projection.
