About the speakers:

Nahraine Al-Khafaji is a London born Iraqi-British artist, raised between England and the Middle East. This contrast in culture informs her study of ancient Iraqi history and its importance in the modern western world she resides in. Frustrated by the destruction of archaeological sites and artefacts, Al-Khafaji's paintings echo the loss of information in our humanity's timeline.

David Janes
is a maker of objects. His work combines meticulous research, wide reading and thought with encyclopaedic reference, ludic intentions and manic humour. He proposes solutions to questions posed by history, current affairs, film; those problems and their inevitable concomitant, the unsatisfactory non sequitur. Janes’ work is frequently accompanied by written texts and books.

Ceri Shaw’s ceramic practice embodies a search for belonging in landscape. Inspired by time spent in coastal areas, Shaw seeks to translate a sense of place and the recording of a location. Shaw’s process involves extensive research into materials and techniques, and considers whether elements of the contemporary sublime can draw attention to the climate crisis by providing a moment of connection to the natural world for audiences.
