Plant ash glazes
A introductory six week course exploring the essentials of glaze chemistry and how to develop glazes using wood ash.
The course will run through every aspect of working with ash and it’s history. We’ll be looking at the new re-print of Phil Rogers seminal book on ash glazes as well as the work of Katherine Pleydell-Bouverie.
Week 1 - Glaze chemistry 101
Week 2 - Processing natural materials - ash, shells, clay
Week 3 - Plant and Wood ash - Glaze theory and making
Week 4 -Plant and Wood ash - Glaze theory and making
Week 5 - Making a glaze blend / glaze tests
Week 6 - Final week, glazing your work
