Perpetually Stew invites you to the 10th instalment, and first birthday celebration, of a Bristol event series platforming artists who use performance and movement in their practice.

Each month we are inviting a different selection of performance artists to explore new or old work in an intimate space, and offer the opportunity to engage with constructive feedback and discussion on each other’s craft.

Practitioners of all skill levels and experience are invited to KIT FORM to join us and duly stew.

On Wednesday 5th of November we’ll be hosting a fresh cohort of artists from across the UK to share their work at KIT FORM gallery. The lineup will feature work from Michaela Shahini, Riley Hamshaw-Mills and Lewys Holt.

Riley Hamshaw-Mills he/him

1-4 cm of levitation (across multiple areas of the stage), a card trick of all my ages, sounds of transferable knowledge from my brain to the audience. 'Rollo' is a performance that is the truest exploration (that i can hope to provide) of one's own faded dreams. When I was young, I hoped to provide to the magic circle, but my own struggles to keep faith in my own ability got in the way. This quick fire medley takes a glimpse at trying to rekindle a previous version of myself, 'magically' appearing in front of my very own eyes and the audience's. A blend of physical movement, sound design and audience interaction is how 'Rollo' manifests itself on stage. Layered sounds and text blankets the performance, invested with youthful and naïve tones, with accompaniment from harsh sounds of remembrance.

Michaela Shahini they/them

EKKO is a live performance that explores sonic preservation, resonance, and decay through sound sculpture. I will “play” the sculpture, creating slow evolving soundscapes - mimicking the process of erosion and evoking the idea of sound as a geological imprint. The sculpture will be played using bows, fingers, and other experimental techniques to explore its sonic range and tactility. The performance will incorporate feedback loops as a way for the sculpture to interact with itself, resulting in a shifting, ambient experience where the sculpture both emits and destroys its frequencies, reflecting on the preservation and loss of both material/memory.

Lewys Holt they/them

Lewys Holt is an interdisciplinary dance artist based in Leeds. They work as a dancer, choreographer and curates Roadhouse with Eleanor Sikorski. Born in Mold in North Wales and raised in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Lewys studied dance at De Montfort University (2010-14). Their practice, while focusing on dance, spans comedy and devised theatre. They make work that centres the performer as an empowered individual, showcasing their personality and vulnerabilities. They make score based choreographies, which combine improvisation with subtle wit and formal experimentation that push the boundaries of disciplines to make innovative performances. They have worked as a dancer with New Art Club, Simone Mousset, Tino Sehgal, Rosemary Lee and Christopher Owen among others.
