LUNCH + LEARN

The first in a new series of relaxed sociable study days led by guest lecturers and artists who will provide thought-provoking lectures.

For our first Lunch + Learn, we are delighted to be joined by Maria Christoforidou, fine art lecturer, artist, writer, and researcher. Maria will be questioning the grand narrative of ‘nature’ as a separate category to the human animal. We shall discuss the ways artists incorporate live plants and animals in their work and what assumptions and complexities this raises, about human laws, technology, decolonisation, subtle activism, and hopeful relationships to a troubled planet.

It matters what matters we use to think other matters with; it matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties.
(Donna J. Haraway, Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene, 2016)

The day will include a curator-led tour of our current exhibition Storm Warning with a focus on some of the more hopeful commissions in the show, including those by artists Heloise Tunstall Behrens, Andrew Merrit, and Ellie Robinson-Carter. A delicious sit down lunch will be prepared and served by vegan chef Rebe Winn, followed by coffee and cake for the afternoon session.
