Living Landscapes

10 large-scale, multi-layered new artworks exploring the Cornwall Coast Path, made using materials the artist has grown herself.

Grose’s landscapes are constructed layer upon layer, creating surfaces which seem alive. Colours and textures ebb and flow, drawing the eye across the picture plane and generating feelings ranging from calm to vertigo in the viewer. Subjects vary from famous landmarks, such as St Micheal’s Mount to a single rock being crashed by waves. The wool which is integral to these works comes from the artist’s small flock of native breed sheep which live on a holding looking down over the River Camel. Here she also grows the plants which she uses to create the dyes which form her palette. Millennia of humans, plants and animals living together and an eye for beauty inhabit this work. The artist also creates botanically accurate plant portraits of the flora she uses for her dyes and hand weaves soft rugs from her sheep’s wool. Come along to the Rock exhibition, meet the artist and immerse yourself in the work.
