Lightbox Tuesday 5 August
Photosensitive seaweed, cyanotypes, photo portraits, ‘Draw Me’ booth
Trace a friend’s portrait using camera obscura technology. Dress up and strike a pose for an old-fashioned black and white portrait. Make wiggly compositions from seaweed and use the power of the sun to develop your very own cyanotypes:
CAST’s team will be in our ground floor learning studio to guide you through the process of making your own cyanotype prints using the power of sunlight.
Kerry Holbrook and Ruth Klückers from The Seaweed Institute, will open up their large light studio on the first floor of CAST for a drop-in workshop using the light-sensitive chemicals found in seaweed to create simple botanical records/photographic prints.
Photographer Will Teakle will be stationed in the black box with his large-format camera ready to take family portraits. There will be a fine selection of dressing up materials to choose from and prints can be produced to collect on the same day at a cost of £5 each.
Jonathan Polkest’s ‘Draw Me/Tedna Ve’ booth will be positioned on the CAST Café terrace throughout August, for visitors to make their own portraits of friends and family using camera obscura technology.
On three Tuesdays in August our learning team is offering the chance to experiment with some of the scientific techniques that underpin the processes of photography and moving image. Join our team in CAST’s black box screening space and learning studio to explore and play – different activities are on offer at each session.
The activities are free, family friendly, and offered on a drop-in basis, no booking required.
CAST Café will be open from 10am to 4pm, with bacon sandwiches from 10 – 11.30am, lunches (large and small) from 12 to 2.30pm, and teas, coffee and cake all day.
Donations to support our learning programme and enable it to keep running are always very welcome.
Participants of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
