Lightbox Tuesday 19 August

Stop motion animation, zoetropes, Draw Me’ booth

Make an articulated contraption, taking inspiration from machines and ‘things that go’. Build your very own zoetrope – an animation device that will make your drawings come to life! Use camera obscura technology to make portraits in JonathanPolkest’s ‘Draw Me/Tedna Ve’ booth.

Join CAST’s team in the Drill Hall of the Museum of Cornish Life to make an articulated contraption, inspired by the machines, vehicles and mechanical objects in their displays.

Visit CAST’s learning studio to experiment with zoetropes, thaumatropes and spinning tops and make your own images spin into life.

Then make your way to CAST’s black box to animate your contraptions with artist Mae Voogd and watch as your creations move across our big screen.

On three Tuesdays in August our learning team is offering the chance to experiment with some of the scientific techniques that underpin the processes of photography and moving image. Join our team in CAST’s black box screening space and learning studio to explore and play – different activities are on offer at each session.

The activities are free, family friendly, and offered on a drop-in basis, no booking required.

CAST Café will be open from 10am to 4pm, with bacon sandwiches from 10 – 11.30am, lunches (large and small) from 12 to 2.30pm, and teas, coffee and cake all day.

Donations to support our learning programme and enable it to keep running are always very welcome.

Participants of all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
