LAUREANA TOLEDO IN CONVERSATION
Artist Laureana Toledo joined in conversation by Mexican poet Julio Trujillo and writer and editor Lucy Foster
Named with bitter irony, artist Laureana Toledo’s project Order and Progress explores the environmental devastation of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the area of Mexico in which she spent her very early childhood years.
Her anthology The Waste Land draws together writings that question the idea of progress through development, confronting the exploitation of this geo-politically sensitive area.
Toledo will be joined in conversation by Mexican poet Julio Trujillo and writer and editor Lucy Foster, whose own research is concerned with representations of coastal areas and communities in relation to histories of conquest, slavery and vulnerable ecosystems.
CAST Café will hand over the main course to the fantastic team from Pica Rico, who will add some true Mexican flavour to the menu.
Thursday 20 June
Admission £15, including Pica Rico x CAST Café supper from 6pm
Booking essential
