Environmental Installations

Art installations by Fiona Campbell, plus free workshops. Made from recycled and found materials, the work invites visitors to get immersed.

Step into a world of reflection and reinvention with Martyrdom of the Ten Thousand, an indoor installation by acclaimed artist Fiona Campbell, crafted from recycled and found materials. This striking piece features suspended bodily forms, symbolising the tragic plight of pangolins - the world’s most trafficked mammal. The work invites you to consider the power of reimagining and repurposing materials to shed light on urgent environmental and conservation issues. This installation, together with a gentle film Life in the Undergrowth, revealing small hidden worlds in Fiona’s garden during lockdown 2020, can be experienced at the Seed Creative Popup (Shop 8), Angel Place Shopping Centre, Bridgwater from 18 - 23 February, 10.30-4pm.

This will be followed in April 8-13th by Flags of the Forest, which explores the beauty and resilience of nature. A stunning installation of reclaimed and botanically-dyed fabrics combined with wood, metal, and other found materials, this multi-layered artwork was originally created by Fiona at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Cornwall. These eco-flags, rich with texture and meaning, celebrate the biodiversity of woodlands and the hope for a thriving natural world. Visitors can walk among these soft hangings and hard lines, experiencing the interplay of art, sustainability, and sound through a soundscape by Ushara Dilrukshan, adding another layer to this immersive sculptural installation.

Alongside the artworks, Fiona will be running free drop-in Eco Sculpture Workshops from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22 February, 11am-2pm at the Seed Creative Popup at Angel Place. Free, fun, and open to everyone aged 6+ (children accompanied by an adult). Get hands-on with recycled wire, textiles, beads, and natural materials as you transform them into imaginative creature sculptures. Be inspired by the  installations on display and enjoy a relaxed, creative space where you can let your imagination run wild. No need to book - just drop in and join the fun!

“We’re thrilled to bring Fiona Campbell’s thought-provoking installations to Bridgwater. Martyrdom of the Ten Thousand and Flags of the Forest showcase the incredible potential of creativity and sustainability to inspire change and spark important conversations about our environment. Together with Fiona’s engaging eco sculpture workshops, this is a fantastic opportunity for the community to connect with art in a hands-on and meaningful way. We can’t wait to see everyone get involved!”

Seed’s primary aim is to enable more people in Sedgemoor to actively engage in the creative arts, particularly those who don’t usually do so. These events are supported with funding from Arts Council England via the Creative People and Places programme.
