‘Colours of Stone' is a joint exhibition featuring sculptures by Tansy Tester and paintings by Kit Winchester, curated by Beth Simmons. The artists share an interest in stone as a source of inspiration for their work, exploring its visual and physical qualities and geographical specificity. Tansy's sculptures focus on the materiality of stone, using everyday construction-based stones and imitating traditionally desirable materials like marble. Kit's paintings from the 'Lucky Pools' series are inspired by digital bathymetric heat map images of British coastal formations, with impasto surfaces and compositions alluding to traditional land and seascapes. The exhibition contrasts the artists' processes and mediums while highlighting their shared interest in stone as an aesthetic, material and conceptual influence on their separate approaches to abstraction and figuration.
