Carol Rhodes: The land is the body is the painting
‘The land is the body the the painting’ A solo exhibition of work by the late Scottish artist Carol Rhodes.
Carol Rhodes’ (1959 – 2018) paintings contain multiple things at once. They hold the ambiguity of the aerial viewpoint at the same time as data level detail. Forests, and excavated wastelands become muscle and reproductive organs. Motorways and sliproads become veins and arteries. Ultimately, Rhodes’ invented painterly landscapes contain the gut feeling of the body.
