Capturing the Inner Sound
Artizan Printmaking and Sculpture Gallery welcomes Exeter based printmaker Val Jones for their closing exhibition of 2024.
Val Jones produces Monotypes, Collagraphs and Etchings, abstract in form and inspired by the landscape, drawing influence not from the accurate, descriptive qualities of an outside landscape but from an inner landscape that transcends description yet is highly expressive, being more concerned with a feeling for a place.
She describes her Monotypes as the most painterly form of printmaking, each one unique, produced directly onto a steel plate using inks and rollers, sometimes with the addition of chine collé or silver and gold leaf, with the image then transferred onto paper by being pulled through an etching press.
“Bold, vibrant, contemporary. Val’s monotypes are a stunning example of a particularly engaging form of printmaking, more direct than other techniques, they have an impulsiveness and spontaneity that is not always seen in the wider medium. Val’s own works have an exciting complexity, with talented use of colour and texture, resulting in a unique exploration of landscape subject.”
Her exhibition will be hosted in our main gallery space whilst in our Courtyard Gallery we shall be hosting the first of our seasonal printmaker open exhibitions. Each space will also feature specially selected 3D works from Adrian Brough, Jenny Amon, Sara Evans, Elisabeth Hadley and Duncan Stewart.
The exhibition runs from November 26th – December 24th
Opening week Tuesday – Saturday 10 am – 5 pm thereafter, the gallery will be open Thursday – Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm with some additional days during the period. Please contact the gallery if you are looking to visit outside our normal opening hours.
Closes 3 pm 24th December
