Blue light reflecting on River Frome
Join us for the closing party of Valentina Culley-Foster's exhibition in the Folk House cafe on Wednesday 30th of October! The multidisciplinary artist will be here to discuss her project and the bar will be open from 5pm - 8pm on the last night before the show ends.

This mixed media series explores the blue textile heritage of the South West of England by interweaving tradition with contemporary fibre arts practice within the community in Frome. Abstract visuals reflect on naturally dyeing textiles blue with the woad plant, using the dual meaning attributed to blue of Goethe’s emotive colour theory as a basis for interpretation. The series aims to evoke melancholy towards the historical demise of primarily females weaving by hand through modern industry and mass synthetic dyeing, contrasting to the allure of sustaining the traditional practice for future generations of British weavers and dyers choosing to explore the potential of working at a slow pace with natural dye pigments in fibre arts or fashion.
