For me it all started as a small child, watchingThe Wizard of Oz religiously on a recorded VHS at my Grandma’s house. I was terrified of the witch, but I was obsessed. Then, as I began reaching for my independence, I too dreamed of a better life somewhere over the… Tamar. Rewatching it now, I’ve had the joyful realisation that the film resonates in more ways than ever.

The iconic 1939 film will be introduced by Hannah Stephens. Hannah is a Cornish actor, theatre maker, director and creative facilitator. She is one third of Trifle Gathering Productions, the frontwoman of punk band Shagrat and an associate director of Miracle Theatre, specialising in youth and community. She is passionate about the arts as a powerful tool for social change, especially when it comes to celebratory community action. Hannah is also a Falmouth Town Councillor, and sits on the board of Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugees.

Seldom if indeed ever has the screen been so successful in its approach to fantasy and extravaganza through flesh-and-blood. And if the Young in Heart to whom Metro dedicates the Mervyn LeRoy production [...] have not wholly disappeared from the earth’s face, this handsomely mounted fairy story in Technicolor, with its wealth of humor and homespun philosophy, its stimulus to the imagination, its procession of unforgettable settings, its studding of merry tunes should click solidly at the box-office
