ARTIST TALK: HENK SCHUT

FORM-ica are delighted to host Henk Schut, a visual artist based in Amsterdam, to talk about his work.

Henk Schut is a versatile visual artist known for his approach that spans across various disciplines. His work is deeply rooted in exploration—he probes environments, communities, and historical as well as contemporary issues to inspire his artistic projects. Schut's creative process is highly adaptive, with each project taking on a unique form that best conveys the underlying concept. Central to his approach is the relationship between space, sound, and time, exploring how auditory experiences influence the perception of a location and shape one’s understanding of their environment.
In recent years, Schut's work has been exhibited at various prestigious venues, including Lentos, kunstmuseum, Linz , NEST ruimte in Den Haag, Festival van Vlaanderen MSK/GUM/S.M.A.K. in Gent, York Art Gallery in the UK, Hermitage and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Notably, his large-scale installation "The Van Gogh Mile" (2012-2013) was commissioned by the Van Gogh Museum and hailed as the Best Work of Art of 2012 by NRC art critic Bianca Stigter. He also curated the 2015 Van Gogh Museum exhibition "When I Give, I Give Myself," where he selected 23 artists to respond to specific letters by Van Gogh, creating new works that were displayed alongside Van Gogh’s masterpieces.
