Then the Artists Moved In marks Barnoon Arts move to its new home, on the first floor of the former Post Office Building on Tregenna Place. The exhibition brings together a diverse group of invited artists to celebrate this transition. Built in 1905 as St Ives Town Post Office, the ground floor originally held the main post office counters, whilst the first floor was home to the Mail Sorting Room, Postmaster’s office, and staff facilities. Over the decades, the site has continually reinvented itself, serving at various times including as a Meadery, Bookshop, and an Accountant’s office. Today, the ground floor is home to retail space R & J Supplies, whilst the upper floor begins its new life as Barnoon Arts’ exhibition, teaching and studio spaces.

Then the Artists Moved In - celebrates the shifting identities of the building, the traces of past use, and the new meanings that emerge as spaces evolve.
