b-side CIC

Rooted on the Isle of Portland, we commission new art and produce an annual international arts festival.

Rooted on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, b-side is an internationally recognised and locally loved arts organisation with a distinctly independent spirit and a strong sense of place.

Portland is more than home; it is the starting point, inspiration and beating heart of everything b-side does. From this island, its ideas, projects and opportunities ripple out across Dorset and far beyond.

b-side works with and commissions artists who are curious about the world around them – from the big questions that shape our lives to the smallest, often overlooked details. Bringing artists, residents and researchers together, it creates unexpected encounters, inventive projects and bold new perspectives inspired by the themes of people and place.

Never content to keep art within traditional boundaries, b-side takes it out into the world – into landscapes, streets, buildings and surprising corners of everyday life. Its work sparks conversations, challenges perceptions and explores the things that connect us, locally and globally.

Behind b-side is a collaborative team of artists, producers and curators with experience spanning visual arts, live art, performance, social practice, heritage, environment and arts education. In 2012, b-side was awarded funding by Arts Council England to become a National Portfolio Organisation.

Accessibility

b-side is on a journey to consider access at the inception of each event, to discover the creative potential of accessible practice, and find new ways to reach, work with, and offer opportunities to everyone.

We try to make our events as accessible as we can. For all our Festivals we offer an Easy Read Guide, free Trishaw rides, and wheelchair-accessible bus tours. We will install ramps where we can at sites that have difficult access and if we can’t we will make sure you have the information before you venture there.
