What Is Beautiful Project
Bridport Arts Centre is looking for workshop facilitators for a community engagement project based in the Allsop Gallery
As part of our 50th Anniversary, Bridport Arts Centre will be hosting an interactive Visual Arts project in the Allsop gallery, based around the theme of What Is Beautiful. The primary aim of this project is to engage under-represented groups and encourage participation in the arts, especially for those who would not normally have any interest in visual art and galleries, and/or feel excluded from this environment.
The project will consist of a series of workshops over the course of 6 weeks. There will also be an interactive gallery exhibition and questionnaire, as well as a call-out for personal interpretations of the theme, the results of which will be displayed in the gallery for the duration of the project.
We are looking for workshop facilitators based in the South West who would be interested in hosting a workshop based around the theme of What Is Beautiful. We would provide a fee of up to £150 and support with materials and travel expenses. We are looking for a variety of different media and formats, the more imaginative and adventurous the better!
So far we will hopefully be including the following workshops:
• An Oops Wow Messy Art workshop with Jo Burlington featuring Banjo the horse, who will be hanging out on the forecourt of the arts centre and providing the visual stimulus for some exciting creative ideas.
• A creative writing workshop with De Kevan Manwaring, prize-winning writer and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Arts University Bournemouth.
The workshops can be aimed at children, teenagers, or adults. The Allsop Gallery is one of the largest publicly funded galleries in the South West, with a floor space of approximately 15mx9m. Bridport is a thriving market town on the Jurassic coast, surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastal areas, with huge potential for a variety of workshops in and outside the gallery. You would also be welcome to use your own facilities as long as these are based within a ten mile radius of Bridport.
What Is Beautiful will begin on the 28th August and continue until the 30th September 2023.
If you are interested in hosting a workshop or have further questions, please email hattie@bridport-arts.com.
