Call for artists
Residency Open Call
Applications are now open for funded collaborative residencies taking place at Porthmeor Studios in 2025
2025 Residency Open Call in partnership with Freelands Foundation.
Applications are now open for collaborative residencies taking place at Porthmeor Studios in 2025.
In partnership with Freelands Foundation, Porthmeor Studios host an annual residency enabling artists to work at the historic Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, Cornwall. First piloted in 2023, the original programme was offered to Freelands Painting Prize winners, encouraging the cohort of newly graduated artists from across the country to further their practice in a dedicated space, and work alongside one another.
The 'Two Together: Porthmeor Studios Residency' is an open call residency for pairs of visual artists. This residency invites artists based in Devon and Cornwall to apply in collaboration with a UK-based artist from outside the region.
The residency opportunity includes:
• Use of Studio 5 at Porthmeor Studios (shared with your collaborator)
• Accommodation in St. Ives, Cornwall (shared with your collaborator).
• Travel expenses covered to and from St. Ives, Cornwall.
• £2,000 stipend per artist to participate and cover living costs during the residency.
• Support from Porthmeor Studios and the Artist Development Team at Freelands Foundation.
• A unique opportunity to collaborate and experiment with another artist in a supportive, process-driven environment.
Eligibility criteria:
• Artists must be based in the UK, with a studio-based visual arts practice.
• Applicants must have between 5-10 years of professional art practice (no more than 10 years after graduating from BA, or equivalent experience).
• Each application must include a collaborator.
• One artist must be based in Devon and Cornwall
• One artist must be based anywhere else in the UK outside of Devon and Cornwall
• Both artists must be available for at least two of the three proposed residency months: June, September, and November 2025. Two blocks of two weeks with a break in between will be agreed with successful applicants.
