Project Space for Early Career Artists
Creative Kernow Associates and Krowji invite applications for two project spaces in Redruth for early career and emerging artists
About Krowji
Krowji is Cornwall’s largest creative hub, providing studio space to a vibrant community of artists and makers in Redruth. This project space offers a unique opportunity to work in a professional studio environment and engage with the Krowji community.
What does this opportunity offer?
This opportunity offers early career and emerging artists one months’ use of a 530sq ft space at Krowji with 24/7 access. You are welcome to apply individually, in a pair, or as a group. If you are applying by yourself, you are also welcome to ask to have the space to yourself or to share it; it’s a big space so it might be nice to have a buddy to help fill it!
The space can come with chairs, tables and easels but can also be left empty if preferred. Electricity and Wi-Fi are included.
Project Space dates
There are two spaces available between Monday 29th September and Friday 31st October.
Who is it for?
This project space is aimed at early career artists and creatives who have ideas they want to experiment with or develop but currently lack the space to do so. Applications are particularly welcome from:
- Artists who do not have access to a studio
- Recent graduates – within 5 years of finishing their qualification
- Artists who have no background in formal art education
All creative disciplines are welcome (within Krowji Tenant H&S Rules & Regulations 2022).
Applications are open to individuals and groups.
Selection criteria
Applications will be reviewed by a panel from CKA and Krowji.
Selection will be based on how the space will benefit you and your practice at this moment – why this space and why now? For example, you might want to make work to use for an application to study art or you might have your first exhibition coming up and want to test the work out in a new space.
Practical information
- You do not need to be a CKA member to apply to this opportunity, but if you are selected you must become a member. Membership starts at £5/month and brings other benefits such as access to other opportunities, regular events, mentoring and resources.
- Beyond the CKA membership fee, there is no cost to take part in this opportunity.
- The project space can be equipped with tables and chairs or left empty. There is Wi-Fi in the room, as well as access to plug sockets.
- The project spaces are on the second floor of the Percy Williams building which has a passenger lift to each level, disabled access WCs on each floor, and a level-access wet-room/shower on the first floor for use by all tenants.
- Krowji features an onsite café and access to washroom and tearooms.
- The selected applicant will be given a Krowji site induction by Krowji staff before being given keys.
- There are no anticipated outcomes of this project, although you are encouraged to hold an informal open studio event at the end of your stay.
